I trained as a graphic designer. Then I taught myself to code. Then I ran a fintech company. These aren't separate chapters — they're the same instinct applied at different scales. At every stage I've been trying to understand the full picture: what something should look like, how it actually gets built, and whether it makes sense as a business. That combination turned out to be useful in ways I didn't plan for.
Most of my career played out at Zapper, a South African payments platform where I joined as a developer and left as CEO — with stints running design, product, and commercial in between. By the time I became CEO I'd touched every layer of the business, which made the hard decisions a little less mysterious. During those three years: we migrated the platform from hardware to cloud (cutting operating costs by 82%), grew the user base from 1.5M to 13M, expanded the merchant network from 30K to 150K, launched South Africa's first independent Tap-on-Phone solution, and took the App Store rating from 3.4 to 4.8. Revenue grew 30% in the first 12 months. I also hold two fintech patents from this period.
At Clickatell I led payments, AI, and product innovation globally — building the Chat Commerce AI engine, designing a cross-regional payments orchestration strategy, and restructuring the Nigerian commercial model in a way that delivered 10x gross profit growth on the same transaction volume.
I spent three years on South Africa's QR Code Standardisation Committee. Turns out that's how payment infrastructure actually gets made: slow, contested, occasionally frustrating, and worth it.
I'm currently Head of Regulated Canada for Super Group (NYSE: SGHC), leading Ontario and Alberta across Betway, Jackpot City, and a portfolio of casino brands — and alongside that, co-founding JoeDoe, a payments infrastructure startup solving the corporate benefit card problem at the point of sale. I designed the product, built the prototype, and am handling the technical architecture and fundraising.
