Brett White

I started with a pencil. I still build things.

Fifteen years at the intersection of design, product, and technology — from award-winning agency work to scaling a fintech platform to 13 million users.

I trained as a graphic designer. Then I taught myself to code. Then I ran a fintech company. These aren't separate chapters — they're the same instinct applied at different scales. At every stage I've been trying to understand the full picture: what something should look like, how it actually gets built, and whether it makes sense as a business. That combination turned out to be useful in ways I didn't plan for.

Most of my career played out at Zapper, a South African payments platform where I joined as a developer and left as CEO — with stints running design, product, and commercial in between. By the time I became CEO I'd touched every layer of the business, which made the hard decisions a little less mysterious. During those three years: we migrated the platform from hardware to cloud (cutting operating costs by 82%), grew the user base from 1.5M to 13M, expanded the merchant network from 30K to 150K, launched South Africa's first independent Tap-on-Phone solution, and took the App Store rating from 3.4 to 4.8. Revenue grew 30% in the first 12 months. I also hold two fintech patents from this period.

At Clickatell I led payments, AI, and product innovation globally — building the Chat Commerce AI engine, designing a cross-regional payments orchestration strategy, and restructuring the Nigerian commercial model in a way that delivered 10x gross profit growth on the same transaction volume.

I spent three years on South Africa's QR Code Standardisation Committee. Turns out that's how payment infrastructure actually gets made: slow, contested, occasionally frustrating, and worth it.

I'm currently Head of Regulated Canada for Super Group (NYSE: SGHC), leading Ontario and Alberta across Betway, Jackpot City, and a portfolio of casino brands — and alongside that, co-founding JoeDoe, a payments infrastructure startup solving the corporate benefit card problem at the point of sale. I designed the product, built the prototype, and am handling the technical architecture and fundraising.

National Diploma in Graphic Design, Durban University of Technology — the foundation of everything that followed.

  • 13M users at peak — grown 8x during my time as CEO of Zapper
  • 2 patents in fintech (transaction communication and authentication)
  • 82% cost reduction from Zapper's hardware-to-cloud platform migration
  • 8 industry awards across FWA, Webby, W3, Pixel, and Awwwards for Pexcil
  • JoeDoe

    Co-founder

    JoeDoe - Toronto, Canada | 2026 - Present

Alongside my work at Super Group, I'm co-founding JoeDoe — a payments infrastructure startup solving the corporate stipend problem. Benefit cards decline when the bill exceeds budget by a dollar. That's embarrassing and fixable. JoeDoe's authorization engine splits the shortfall to the employee's personal card instantly: one tap, one clean approval, no merchant contracts, no hardware, no receipt overhead. I designed the product, built the Figma prototype, and am handling the technical architecture and fundraising.

  • Super Group

    Head of Regulated Canada

    Supergroup - Toronto, Canada | Jun 2025 - Present

Representing Super Group International across Regulated Canada — Ontario and Alberta — for a portfolio of flagship and niche casino brands including Betway, Jackpot City, Spin Casino, Ruby Fortune, and Royal Vegas. The work spans product, compliance, commercial strategy, and regulatory relationships across two of Canada's most active iGaming markets.

  • Clickatell

Vice President, Payments Products & Innovation

    Clickatell - Toronto, Canada | Sep 2022 - May 2025

Led a portfolio spanning payments, AI, and R&D as part of the Senior Leadership Team — covering North America, Africa, and expansion markets.

Built Clickatell's Chat Commerce AI engine, integrating conversational AI with in-chat payments to transform how customers interact with brands at the point of purchase. Developed a RAG-based AI knowledge management framework to improve automation and customer engagement. Defined a global payments orchestration strategy enabling card processing, tokenization, and alternative payment rails.

Restructured the commercial model for the Nigerian market — same transaction volume, 10x gross profit, 3x margin improvement. Also led M&A evaluation and business case development as part of the company's expansion strategy.

  • Zapper

    Chief Executive Officer

    Zapper - Cape Town, South Africa | Aug 2019 - Aug 2022

I joined Zapper as a developer. I left as CEO. In between I ran design, product, and commercial — which meant that when I finally ran the company, I'd already broken most of the things that could go wrong.

Led a full platform migration from a hardware-dependent solution to a cloud-hosted API architecture, reducing operating costs by 82% and significantly improving system reliability. Grew the merchant network 5x from 30K to 150K and the consumer base 8x from 1.5M to 13M through platform partnerships with major banks and fintech apps — driving 30% revenue growth within the first 12 months.

Pioneered South Africa's first independent Tap-on-Phone (SoftPOS) payment solution, securing regulatory approvals and establishing key industry partnerships. Redesigned the Zapper mobile app using customer research, improving the App Store rating from 3.4 to 4.8 and increasing engagement by 40%.
